Gomez at Great American

The full set is on my Flickr stream.

As always, the venue played the Petty Booka ukelele cover of "Whippin' Piccadilly" just before Gomez hit the stage.  But as an added bonus,  they also played "Trololololo" just before the opening band (Buddy) came onto the stage.

Gomez Live Series Volume 1

Gomez have just released a live CD that they recorded during their 2009 tour (so it is the first live recording to include live versions of songs from "A New Tide").  The CD is not available in stores (online or otherwise).  They are selling it at their live shows.  They are also selling it as a download (mp3 or FLAC) on their website.

Plus they have the handy little widget (below) that will let you stream the whole album.

Personally, I'm going to wait until next week, when we are going to see Gomez at Great American Music Hall.  We're going on Wednesday (St. Patrick's Day), but there are three shows on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (March 17-19).  The Friday night show is sold out, but the other two are not sold out yet (as of this writing).

OK Go: The Band Geek Video

There was some controversy when this video first came out, in that OK Go's record label would not permit this video to be embedded, so no one could post it to their blog.

Apparently, that issue has been resolved....

[UPDATE 3/10/10:  Just to prove my AWESOME powers:  NPR did a story today about exactly this, wherein they said this:  "The band's label, EMI, didn't see things the same way. In an effort to maintain some control over the dissemination of the music video, EMI denied listeners the ability to embed it on their own Web sites and blogs. After receiving a deluge of complaints, the band eventually persuaded EMI to enable embedding. Soon afterward, however, OK Go parted ways with EMI to start its own record label, Paracadute."  Proving that when I speak, NPR listens. :-)]

Little Boots

Okay, after I said that I'm not a "dance music" kind o' guy, here I am recommending something that is basically a dance album.  But I think that Little Boots (real name, Victoria Christina Hesketh) is a lot of fun, and I think she's genuinely talented.  Go to her YouTube channel and browse her many homemade videos of herself playing and singing her own songs as well as other people's songs (including Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill") and you'll see what I mean.

And her first album, "Hands," was released in the US this week.

Also, she will be doing an in-store performance and CD signing at Amoeba Records on Haight at 6 p.m. on March 9.

P.S., The thing at the beginning of the video that kind looks like an electronic "Connect Four" game that mated with the disco dance floor from "Saturday Night Fever" is a real  electronic musical instrument called a "tenori-on."  In fact, the Wikipedia entry for the tenori-on says "See also: Little Boots."
