Hyper-thyroid

Chip took Mr. Wonderful to the vet yesterday for a check-up It was time for one anyway, but he's been drinking a lot of water lately, so we've been concerned that he might have kidney problems.

The vet called this morning with the test results.

He does seem to be in the early stages of kidney disease, so everyone's hoping that treating it early will help minimize that as a problem.

But the reason that he's been eating a lot and still losing weight is that his thyroid is working overtime, which we had not even vaguely suspected. They said that this is in its early stages as well, and it can be kept in control with medication.

So he has started a new medication as of tonight.

We're hoping when his metabolism starts to slow down that he'll turn into a fatter and lazier kitty, and maybe, just maybe, we'll have fewer early-morning wake-up calls.
