Harvey Milk Day 2011

Sunday, May 22, 2011, would have been Harvey Milk's 81st birthday.  In 2009, the State of California began recognizing May 22 as "Harvey Milk Day."  On this second annual Harvey Milk Day, the Trevor Project (with some help from Dustin Lance Black and Cleve Jones) opened an LGBT suicide prevention hotline call center at 575 Castro Street, the site of Harvey's old camera store.

So the Castro was busy yesterday -- dedication and opening of the call center with Anne Kronenberg and Dustin Lance Black, then a rally at 17th and Castro with speeches by Anne Kronenberg, Tom Ammiano, Tory Hartmann, Stuart Milk, Supervisor Scott Wiener, Cleve Jones and others, then back to the camera store for more speeches by Bevan Dufty, Jose Cisneros and others.
