Tea Party Jesus

Inspired blog:  Tea Party Jesus.

It has a simple concept that I'm glad someone put into practice:  Take quotes from Tea Party members and put them into Jesus' mouth.

Randy Rainbow

But don't take my word for it.  Here are a couple of testimonials:

Frank Conway of BROADWAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS:  "I thought I was the only one whose life was a Broadway musical until I found the pot of gold under Randy Rainbow's Bloggity Blahg Blahg. Not only is he hilarious, he loves Broadway Cares so we love him. And he loves us for loving him and we love him for loving us. And we love each other. And that's because none of us got enough love in our childhood. And that's showbiz... kid."

"Blending Seinfeldian observation and Kathy Griffin's knack for storytelling with a show queen's sensibility...Randy should have you rolling when the new theater season heats up!" -Brandon Voss, The Advocate

You know, I bet "Randy Rainbow" is not his real name.  It's probably "Randall Rainbow."

Wal-Mart? SRSLY?

I still peruse my stats every day, just to see what postings are being hit and what search terms are leading people here.

Today, I saw my all-time favorite search term that led someone to this blog:

Now, in reality, I'm sure they're looking for the Playboy "Women of WalMart" video from 2004.  But this image to the right from the "People of WalMart" website is what the phrase conjures up in my mind.  Or worse, something like this one.

Oh, dear.  Now that I've used the words, "Women of WalMart" in this posting, I'm sure that I'll now start getting hits for people searching that term.....

Heavens forbid that I should ever put onto this blog some phrase like "naked street people."  (Real search terms have come close to this -- today, I got a hit from someone searching on the term, "naked street guys.")

The Little Mermaid gives advice to young girls

Okay, a bit of a kvetch.

I'm posting this here because I don't think I should post it to Facebook.

On Facebook, I have friends who are 12-year-old girls (my cousins children) who might not appreciate the humor of this video.  More importantly, I really doubt that their mothers would see the humor of this video or of their daughters watching this video.  Not that the video is horribly dirty or even risque, really, but I can easily see it pissing off my cousins.

So Facebook really should consider providing some kind of filter that let's you restrict individual postings to be visible to only a specified subset of your friends.
Yes, I could start a second profile for grown-ups only, but that would take a lot of time and a lot of explaining.  And, besides, I believe that FB frowns on people having multiple accounts.  So until they lighten up on the multiple accounts front, they should come up with some filters.

Oh, yeah.  And the video's pretty funny, too....

Kerning Fail

Here's a screen grab from the SHN-SF (Shorenstein Hays Nederlander San Francisco) website (click on the picture to enlarge).

"Arts Exchange" is a service where SHN subscribers can sell their tickets that they can't use.

But I have no idea what "ART SEXCHANGE" is.

Addictionary: Gamma Tester

Gamma Tester - noun, Someone who tests software after the beta tests officially end. Specifically, anyone who purchases software (especially an operating system) between the time of its official "release" date and the time that at least six "bug-fixing" updates have been released. See also "early adopter."

People of WalMart

Found via Gizmodo:

There's another new blog in town -- People of WalMart (or "POW" for short").

This one is devoted to photos taken of customers at Walmart. Some photos are much scarier than others. Some are much funnier than others. Some are just kind of sad.

It's still young enough (just a couple of weeks old) that you can read the entire site in under five minutes. So be an early adopter just this once.

Addictionary (again)

Gymnauseum -- noun, When working out at the health club, the feeling you get that lets you know that you really should have stopped working out about ten minutes ago.

[UPDATE 8/31/09: For the second time out of two submissions I've made to Addictionary, and for the second time in one week, my submission to Addictionary has been chosen as "Word of the Day"]

Word of the day

My submission to the Addictionary was chosen as today's Word of the Day:

proselytute
- noun, Someone who receives pay for presenting political or religious opinions disguised as fact or news

USAGE
- The cable news station's pundit made millions working as a proselytute, but his lucrative career was cut short when he was arrested in a proselytution sting.

Probably Bad News

If you're a fan of the likes of FailBlog or Totally Looks Like, then you should check out the new blog, Probably Bad News.

It is like FailBlog, but with a more narrow focus -- print and broadcast news Fails (like the sample to the right). There are a few I've seen before, such as the photo of a pregnant woman smoking a cigarette with the caption, "...worries about the effect on her unborn child from the sound of jackhammers." But there are many that I've not seen before.

It's still young, so the complete content is currently only about four or five pages long.

Glee club of the Damned

Total Eclipse Of the Heart Literal Version

Okay, I've held off re-posting this since I first saw it a couple of weeks ago. But now that Boing Boing has finally found it, then I have to do it just to make this video as ubiquitous as possible.

I thought that the literal version of Take On Me was pretty funny, but this one has better jokes, so the underlying joke lasts longer. IMHO.

Count the puns

Teabagging

In this MSNBC report on Republican Tea Parties, count the teabagging puns, including the obvious one on Dick Armey's name.

April Fool's Day

Gizmodo is having a lot of fun with April Fool's Day today, interrupting their regular fare with lots of bizarre articles like "Follow The New Gizmodo Empire And You Will Be Rewarded4."

And Huffington Post has this compendium of April Fool's pranks.

Among the list:

The Guardian has announced that it is shutting down its print publishing and will in future be distributed exclusively via Twitter.

Expedia is offering $99 flights to Mars.

Bjork has announced that she "
has accepted the position of lead vocalist for legendary Led Zeppelin."

Car and Driver announced that President Obama ordered the removal of Dodge and Chevrolet automobiles from NASCAR. [UPDATE: But don't go looking for this article on their site. You won't find it. Even though it was clearly labeled as a joke, apparently the article caused a lot of people to become very upset. Car and Driver has pulled the article down.]

Due to a hostile takeover, Funny or Die has changed its name to "Reba or Die," and has converted to all-Reba-McEntire content. (Click picture to enlarge and read the press release.)

And my personal favorite is the Qualcomm announcement of its innovations in its convergence program:

Have a Rube Goldberg Easter

Creme That Egg!

Via Gizmodo.

This is about a year old, and I know I've seen it before, but I was reminded of it when the good people at Gizmodo posted it today.

And though I'm not a huge, huge fan of Rube Goldberg machines, this one is pretty darn clever and entertaining. And Easter themed.

It's Everywhere! It's Everywhere!

Obama's Elf

I've seen this one so many places that I'm not saying "via Boing Boing" or "via Huffington Post" or anything even remotely like that....

I will remind you of that old quote from Oscar Levant, "A pun is the lowest form of humor -- if you didn't think of it first."

Two via Boing Boing

Here are two videos that are totally unrelated except for two things: (a) I like them both; and (b) they both showed up on Boing Boing today.

First, there's the kitten video with the six-year-old girl providing voices for the photos in her book of kitten pictures, which Boing Boing describes as "Best Internet Video Evar?":

Kittens

Then there's the musical homage to Trader Joe's:
